How to submit

How do I submit my manuscript?

Manuscripts can be submitted online through JBB Online Submission System (https://55099zzwd.coop.osaka-u.ac.jp/JRS/) or by sending hard copies (1 original and 2 copies) of the manuscript along with a submission form (English/Japanese) to the Business Office of the Society.

How do I submit a revised manuscript?

Online submission:
If the editor has sent you an e-mail of request for revision and asked you to send back a revised version, you should submit the revised manuscript through the link provided in the e-mail. You need not re-enter the submission form.

Manuscripts that have been rejected or withdrawn may be resubmitted with appropriate modifications based on the editor's comments. In such cases, you must submit the manuscript as a new submission. Please fill out the submission form and provide the former manuscript number in the box given.

Hard-copy submission:
If the editor has sent you a letter of request for revision, you should send your revised manuscript in hard copy directly to the editor-in-charge. If the editor has rejected the manuscript but encouraged a resubmission, please submit the revised manuscript as a new submission to the Journal Office, indicating the former manuscript number.

I have lost the e-mail of request for revision and the link for submitting a revision. How should I do?

The e-mail of request for revision has been sent to the corresponding author and the editor-in-charge. Please contact the editor-in-charge and ask to forward the link. We strongly recommend that you print and keep all the e-mail correspondence until the final decision is announced.

Online submission

The number of authors is less than 10. Should all 10 columns for authors
be filled out?

Please leave them blank. The system automatically removes blank columns.

I cannot add the eleventh author or subsequent authors.

Your browser does not support JavaScript. Please indicate those coauthors in Remarks to Journal Office and Editor.

I forgot to include the corresponding author's name in All Authors column.

You can change the author information before you click the OK button on the Confirm Manuscript Information screen. If the manuscript information has been already uploaded and your manuscript has been given a temporary ID (e.g., JBB060716A), please complete the submission process within 24 hours and contact the Journal Office, indicating your temporary ID. The journal staff will change the author information.

How should I use "CC (optional)"?

If the corresponding author is the principal investigator but the submission is made by another person, the latter person can enter his/her e-mail in the "CC (optional)" box. The system will send carbon copies of any e-mail correspondence to the address given.

I am not able to move to the next page.

Try again from the start page. If this does not work, please inform the support center (online-jbb@bio.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp) with detailed information (e.g., your browser name, version, and your MS-Word version).

File upload

I have uploaded the manuscript files and approved my submission. However,
I do not receive any e-mail from the system.

To complete the submission process, you have to click the Approve Submission button. When the submission is completed, the Submission Completed screen will appear and the Journal Office will be notified of a new submission. Your manuscript will be then assigned to an editor for review. Generally within 1 to 3 working days, the Journal Office will send you an e-mail with your manuscript number and the contact information during the review process.

If you have clicked the Approve Submission button but the Submission Completed screen will not appear, please contact the support center (online-jbb@bio.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp) with detailed information.

The system does not create PDF files from my MS-Word files.

When your MS-Word file was broken or PDF conversion failed, you cannot proceed PDF create page. Please check your MS-Word file. If you are a Macintosh user, please check your MS-Word file using Windows MS-Word. If you cannot read your Macintosh file in Windows, PDF conversion is difficult. For further information, please contact the support center (online-jbb@bio.eng.osaka-u.ac.jp).

I am not satisfied with the PDF files created by the system.
How can I withdraw my online submission to switch to the hard-copy submission?

If you need to withdraw before you have approved your submission, you can stop the submission process and send the manuscript in hard copy to the Journal Office. Your submission will be removed automatically from the system after 24 hours. If you need to withdraw after you have approved your submission, contact the Journal Office immediately with your Temporary ID to avoid a duplicate submission.

I need to make a change. What do I do?

If you need to make a change before you have approved submission, go ahead and upload a new file or make whatever other revisions you need to make. Nothing happens with your submission until you approve it. If you need to make a change after you have approved your submission, but not yet received an e-mail acknowledgement with your MS number, contact the Journal Office immediately. If you need to make a change after you've been notified that your manuscript has been assigned to an Editor for review, contact your editor.
